Our Team

With a combined 50+ years of real estate investment and development experience, our core team has spearheaded multiple high-profile projects, and are known for delivering above-market returns to our investors.

  • Loren began his professional career as a corporate lawyer working for Clifford Chance in New York and King & Spalding in Atlanta.  He then moved into software technology as general counsel and head of acquisitions for two successive public software companies, leading each in a series of acquisitions and partnerships, and culminating in the successful sale of each to larger public companies.   Using much of the same experience and skills and with a family background in owning and managing commercial properties in the New York/New Jersey area, in 2009 Loren joined an Atlanta-based opportunistic real estate fund as a principle to raise equity capital.  They purchased $200M+ of distressed assets in the Atlanta MSA from banks and special servicers. Loren started Capkey in 2012 and began his partnership with Mark. Loren graduated from Emory University with a BA in economics in 1987 and from Columbia Law School in 1990.

Loren and his wife Jennifer have two children in college, their son at Washington University in St. Louis (Go Bears!) and their daughter at the University of Southern California (Fight On!)

  • Mark grew up in the real estate business in Huntsville, Alabama and began his commercial real estate career in Atlanta over 30 years ago. He worked with Adams-Cates/Grubb & Ellis as an office leasing specialist starting in 1987. Then, from 1989 to 2012, worked for Corporate Property Advisors, Inc. as a broker and investor assisting in all phases of the acquisition, development, operation, marketing and disposition of commercial real estate investments.  Mark started Capstone Commercial Estate, LLC in 2012 and soon thereafter began his partnership with Loren. Mark graduated from the University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE!) with a BS in real estate in 1987.

Mark and his wife Stacy have one daughter in college at Wake Forrest University (Go Deacs!)

How We Work

Our name is a combination of Capstone, which is the culmination of work leading to a successful result, and Keystone, referring to the central theory or idea of a larger plan.

For us to successfully execute for our investors, it is important we always follow our three core tenets.

STRATEGIC APPROACH

At its core, the Capkey difference is our team’s creative thinking.  Our visionary principles build their strategies on a foundation of a deep understanding of local markets, experience with real estate cyclicality and a strong point of view on the economy. Layering that foundation with a creative strategic approach and the ability to embrace uncertainty results in models and assumptions that are put through significant stress tests. This leads to an executable plan that results in above average returns.

PARTNERSHIPS

Strong and long-standing relationships with a broad network of partners gives Capkey access to extensive expertise in a variety of areas and extensive access to local markets other advisors may not have. These trusted partners support Capkey in deal sourcing, political and regulatory contacts and execution capability, all with the goal of enhanced investor returns.

ETHICAL BEHAVIOR

Capkey insists on full transparency to all of our investors. For that reason, we conduct business fairly, ethically and in full compliance with all laws and regulations. Integrity and respect are a critical component of our success, and we value the trust of our investors above all.  That is how we define being a trusted partner.
